Artist Crafts Big Doilies That Attain 15ft And Kind Large Spider Webs


Ashley V. Blalock is a Californian artist and since 2011 she has been creating distinctive and particular installations by filling a room with gigantic, hand-crocheted doilies. In 2014, she continued her work by naming her ongoing sequence “Holding Up With Appearances” and filling rooms, galleries, partitions along with her meticulously crafted doilies.

Blalock’s work will be as excessive as 15 ft and when it fills the room it begins to resemble a large spiders internet this manner creating a way of unease for the viewer. Blalock explains her work by saying, “The doilies themselves signify a sure need to maintain up the looks of gentility to the surface world expressed via the association of objects within the home setting….The pink shade provides away the futility of such an act and hints on the unease that lurks under the floor of an obsessive want to regulate and prepare.”  Scroll all the way down to see mesmerizing Blalock’s work under.
